Level 42 – Starchild (Polydor)

Born in the Isle of Wight, Mark King moved to London at the age of 19, giving birth to Level 42 along with Phil Gould (drums), his brother, Boom (guitar) and Mike Lindup (keyboards). He eventually turned himself from a drummer into one of the best bass guitarists in the world, getting influences from his elders, such as Larry Graham, Stanley Clarke and Marcus Miller, bringing the 70’s slap style to a wider audience…
From then, Level 42 would develop an instantly recognizable style, delivering classics such as ‘Lessons In Love’, ‘Something About You’ and ‘Lessons In Love’ among others.
The Wally Badarou co-written ‘Starchild’, taken from their self-titled debut-album release back in 1981, being their very first cut to enter the Club Play Singles, and one of the best illustrations ever of the high-caliber musicianship of the band.
