The Love Unlimited Orchestra – Midnight And You

Classics: The Love Unlimited Orchestra – Midnight And You (20th Century Fox)

A 40-piece string orchestra that served as a backing unit for both Barry White and female vocal trio Love UnlimitedThe Love Unlimited Orchestra comin’ up with the Gene and Billy Page penned ‘Midnight And You’ back in January 1974. One of the highlights of their ‘Rhaposody In White’ album. And, in the meantime, one of their signature cuts along with ‘Love’s Theme’ and ‘My Sweet Summer Suite’. This under the direction of the one and only Barry White.

Strangely enough, The Love Unlimited Orchestra‘s version of ‘Midnight And You’ never got a single release though. No more than it was the first version of it as a matter of fact. An obscure and transient act from Jamaica, the Odyssey Group, releasin’ it first back in 1972. Although with a very limited impact. So limited at the end, that many are those who thought The Love Unlimited Orchestra were responsible for the original version. Beginning with Solomon Burke. The latter comin’ up with aknowledgements to Barry White on his version of the song a few weeks after.

Other interpretations of ‘Midnight And You’ followed. Such as the one by the likes of Mango Santamaria back in 1975. And also, Nilo Espinoza in 2005. Meanwhile Freemasons gave it a brilliant interpolation the year after. Sharing the bill with Siedah Garrett on the vibrant ‘Rain Down Love’. And so did Soulpersona together with Princess Freesia on ‘Ultrasuperlove’ in 2011.
