Mongo Santamaría – Watermelon Man (Columbia)

Born in Havana, Cuba, Mongo Santamaría is remembered as a major figure in the history of Latin music. A rumba quinto master and a percussionist he played with other legends such as Tito Puente, Cal Tjader and Fania All Stars, melting Afro-Cuban Rhythms with R&B & Soul. His 1963 hit rendition of Herbie Hancock‘s ‘Watermelon Man’ got inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.
