Monocles & Slezz, Maftown Boys feat. Tapes – Xaka La Mina (Oral Deep Remix) (Skalla Records)

What makes South African House (Mzansi House) so exciting is its instinctual penchant to blend traditional music/folklore with the basic elements of the groove, from Soul, to Jazz, Funk, R&B and eventually poetry if not Hip-Hop to make the whole coming up together as one. This is pretty much what to be expected on this African spoken word led joint over a kalimba-driven fluid rhythm line, enriched with synth parts sounding like as many ellipsis…
Although no real common points with it, a cut which I could easily be seen mixed together with B.O.P.‘s classic ‘Zabalaza’ for some reason.
