Tennerz: Anthony Nicholson & Jaidene Veda – We Work Best (Anthony Nicholson Miquifaye Vocal Mix) (Circular Motion)
One of the definitve highlights from Jaidene Veda‘s ‘Heart Of Gold’ album… ‘We Work Best’ now sees the light as a single. This on Anthony Nicholson‘s Circular Motion label. And with a set of worth the check alternative mixes as one might guess…
And here we go once again with the same interrogation… To make this short, is this soulful House, as it says on Traxsource? Or deep House?
Well, You, familiar with these shores, should know as we don’t really care about this kind of considerations. As rather focussing on the overhall feeling of the whole. In other words, the atmopshere. An element speakin’ of which Veda and Nicholson have established themselves as patented purveyors. And this, in their respective felds. From the singer’s approach spreading a unique impression of intimacy. To Nicholson‘s aerial jazzy arrangements along with a syncopated rhythm pattern. As many elements constitutive of their respective signatures as a matter of fact which, blended together, seem like opening new paths. With William Kurk‘s lush piano punctuations appaearing as the icing on the cake.
We work best along the way, as much as getting to know better each other. Meanwhile benefitting from the other’s upbringing to evolve. Nothing but the proper of music at the end. Knowing we got to be on the same page if not at least a similar one to speak the same language. This being obviously the case speakin’ of this association. Don’t you think???

– The first time I’ve heard of Anthony Nicholson brings us back to the Miami 1997 Winter Music Conference. There, Clairaudience label Samir Hall head gave me a copy of USG‘s ‘NCameu’. I soon after elected it as my track of the Conf. An infectious gem featuring the sultry D’Borah Rivers with production work by the likes of our man along with Ron Trent. The two then partners eventually droppin’ extra recordings together either as USG or African Blues. This resulting in gems such as ‘Ebony Angel’ or ‘Sunpower’ before soon after parting ways.
From then, Nicholson would develop his own sound paralelly to his former partner. Makin’ the proof of a rare maturity while exploring experimental sounds and vibes. Meanwhile givin’ birth to countless goodies. From the vibrant ‘Voodoo Jazz Rapture’ which I eventually licensed on the vol. 1 of my ‘Ritmo Suave’ compilations. To ‘Revolution’ and ‘Sunshine’ back in 2001 on Nitegrooves. Not to mention the vibrant ‘All’ featuring Mikkhiel. A cut which he released under his Legacy guise to name but a few. All in all strenghtening his position as a one of a kind producer from a release to another. Including ‘Suckapunch’ more recently on Clairaudience. But also ‘Living For Today’ along with Cara Dawn. Not to mention ‘We Work Best’ which he has crafted for Canadian songstress Jaidene Veda.
Anthony Nicholson has released a total of 6 albums so far. With his latest – ‘Gravity’ – back in 2016 on deepArtSounds.
