Phil Fearon & Galaxy – What Do I Do? (M&M Mix)

Classics: Phil Fearon & Galaxy – What Do I Do? (M&M Mix) (Ensign)

“Tell me… What do I do? If I wanna get through to you…” Just try to follow Phil Fearon‘s story and see how it goes. The man has come a long way. First appearing as a member of Hi-Tension (remember their eponymous single?). But also of Kandidate (cf. ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’). Then Proton before goin’ on his own and eventually give birth to Galaxy. Even though this venture happened to be more of a guise that a group. Therefore allowing him to produce in a studio environment. And this with two backing female singers by the likes of Dorothy Galdes and Julie Gore.

From their 1984 eponymous debut-album, the synth-led joyous ‘What Do I Do?’, as mixed by John Morales and Sergio Munzibai, has a little something of Bob Marley‘s ‘Could You Be Loved’. And eventually of Stevie Wonder‘s ‘Do I Do’ on its Carnival Mix.
Unsurprisingly, it stands as one of their signature cuts. This with ‘Everybody’s Laughing’ and ‘Dancing Tight’ (from the same package). But also ‘I Can Prove It’. Then, although to a lesser extend, the Stock, Aitken & Waterman produced ‘Ain’t Nothing But A Party’. A track speaking of which chances are great its title might pretty well have inspired Jellybean Benitez with his memorable ‘Ain’t Nothing But A House Party’ parties and mixes…
