Q-Tip – Breathe And Stop (Arista)

Harlem-born Q-Tip first came to prominence as a member of A Tribe Called Quest along with school friends Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White, eventually rappin’ on Deee-Lite‘s memorable ‘Groove Is In The Heart’ back in 1990.
He started his solo career on the heels of ATCQ‘s disbanding in 1998, releasing his debut-album – ‘Amplified’ – the year after.
Taken from the latter, the J Dilla produced ‘Breathe And Stop’, cleverly built on a blend of excepts from Kool & The Gang‘s ‘N.T.’ (1971) and Emmett Chapman‘s ‘Gypsy’ over a phat groove, stands as one of his signature cuts.
