Tennerz: Rapson – Heat (Exclusive Extended Mix) (Friday Fox Recordings)
Seems like we’re welcoming Rapson for the very first time on these shores. And I gotta admit, it was about time! I just can’t figure how we managed to pass on this firing gem last year. The title track to his ‘Heat’ EP, it therefore had all the ingredients for an inclusion in our 10 essential 2016 tracks. Let’s bet we’ll most likely feature it in our 2017 edition of the likes, on the heels of its re-release.
Looks like we’re dealing with a theme reminding of Mike City‘s ‘My Weakness’. In other words with a sort of obsession for the one, although with a bittersweet love affair flavor. With singers Nathan Thomas and Holly Petrie givin’ it some R&B feel in terms of vocal arrangements. Meanwhile, producer Marc Rapson builds the whole over some infectious funk-driven rhythm pattern. Spicing up the whole with stellar jazzy keys.

Although a seasoned musician, composer and producer, Marc Rapson is fairly new to the House music scene. Following 2 remixes for Christian B & Lavvy Levan on Friday Fox Recordings, it was obvious that our man got bitten by the House bug. With an EP of his own – ‘Heat’ – to soon after see the light back in August 2016. Teaming up with vocalists Nathan Thomas and Holly Petrie, the latter carried a wide focus. Touching on multiple sub-genres of House Music and underpinned by Jazz and Funk undercurrents.
“I’ve got to hand it to Friday Fox for giving me time to really find my sound. This has been an interesting journey. Delving into the unknown to see what Rapson sounds like in the context of House Music”, said Rapson. “I’m lucky to have been working with two superb vocalists in Holly Petrie and Nathan Thomas. And, in the meantime, to have had Loren Hignell’s soulful sax playing too. This EP takes inspiration from everything soulful that I hear in House music and beyond. It comes from the heart and was made with love in a time where we need more love in the world.”
Hailing from Hertford, Hertfordshire, UK, Rapson is a producer, composer and keys player. Whether performing live, remixing or re-editing classics, he shows a deep passion for blending Soul into his music. Rapson’s writing credits include working with Deborah Jordan, Kenny Thomas and Janet Devlin.
He released his debut album – Dark vs Light – back in 2014. Most likely fusing low swung Hip-Hop beats with Jazz inflected Fender Rhodes at the time.
