Somore & Damon Trueitt – I Refuse (What You Want)

Lost but not least! Somore feat. Damon Trueitt – I Refuse (What You Want) (Soft Ambient Vocal Mix) (I! Records)

No video available for this, but instead a player!

Don’t get me wrong, I ain’t got anything against UK Garage / Speed G (call it whatever you want). Even though I never felt any inclination for the genre neither, apart from a couple of exceptions here or there.
Of course, ‘I Refuse’ became a big UK anthem, delivered in a myriad of remixes, but c’mon!!! Music ain’t about beats and noise. And even more when comin’ to have a listen to this vibrant (Soft Ambient Vocal Mix) by the likes of Wayne Gardiner. The version which just got Damon Trueitt‘s outstanding vocal performance to a rare level. Meanwhile enhancing the emotional content of its lyrics.

Quite surprised to notice though this jewel isn’t available on Youtube nor elsewhere. Although it’s probably the best piece of music which ever saw the light on Joe Ventola‘s I! Records label.

Overview
I remembering literally stumblin’ upon Damon Trueitt‘s voice the first time I happened to hear the bittersweet ‘I Refuse (What You Want)’. This most likely bringin’ us back to 1995 and what would be his first release on I! Records.

Don’t ask me why, I couldn’t help myself feeling a connection with Omar even though they have slightly different tones. Meanwhile definitely bookmarking his name for some encore. The latter comin’ soon after under the form of countless trendy remixes. With none of them though beating Wayne Gardiner‘s ‘Soft Ambient Vocal Mix’ at the end.

Obviously geared towards different vibes, I! Records never capitalized on Trueitt‘s undeniable talent. Getting him to lose himself in a whole bunch of mediocre uptempoed productions. And, as a result, not getting the attention he truly deserves.

Trueitt eventually resurfaced after a few years hiatus. Eventually finding more appropriate teritories along with artists such as Ronny Breaker (‘Central Park’) or Dynamique (‘Love Hatin’). Not to mention YesYou (‘Change Is Gonna Come’).
