Steely Dan – Do It Again (ABC)

Classics: Steely Dan – Do It Again (ABC Records)

Probably the most boiling period in terms of creativity, the 70’s saw an endless flow of musicians coming from varied horizons. Meanwhile contributing to the shapin’ of the contemporary groove. Among them, countless Californian acts, artists. Beginning with bassist Walter Becker and keyboardist/singer Donald Fagen who would give birth to Steely Dan.

The opening cut to their 1972 debut album, ‘Can’t Buy A Thrill’, the timeless jazzy ‘Do It Again’ standing fresh as day#1. As a matter of fact, givin’ it a deeper listen tells us how influential ‘Do It Again’ managed to be. With many ohters luminaries covering it along with time. From Eumir Deodato to American Disco-Funk band Rhythm Heritage, best known for their 1976 US #1 single ‘Theme from ‘S.W.A.T.’. Not to mention Spaghetti House studio act Clubhouse. And how to not somehow think of Sade and her producer, Robin Millar, when they recorded ‘Smooth Operator’? if not of Mass Production‘s ‘Shanté’ to another extend?
