Taana Gardner – Heartbeat (Club Version)

Classics: Taana Gardner – Heartbeat (Club Version) (West End Records)

Things may turn on being different as to what they would appear at first sight… This pretty much applying to the syncopated downtempo funky ‘Heartbeat’. With everybody leavin’ the floor when Larry Levan played the acetate for the very first time at The Paradise Garage!

Is it because he got commissioned to remix it that he insisted along with time? I’d be pretty much tempted to say no. Most likely because he first and foremost happened to be among the very rare ones who could truly feel things. This along with radio programmer Frankie Crocker who would support the song as well, from the following Monday on WBLS.

‘Heartbeat’ belongs the 120 + songs which Kenton Nix happened to write and arrange. Beginning with Ednah Holt‘s ‘Serious, Sirius Space Party’ on the same label.
This nowadays classic stands as West End Records’s biggest commercial successes along with Karen Young‘s ‘Hot Shot’, according to what the late Mel Cheren told me back in the day. As sampled back in 1994 by Jamaican Ragga singer Ini Kamoze on the memorable ‘Here Comes The Hotstepper’. But also, twelwe years before, by T. Ski Valley on the classic ‘Catch The Beat’
