The Jimmy Castor Bunch – It’s Just Begun (Kinetic)

Although he started back in 1966 as a solo artist, Jimmy Castor got his peak in the early 70’s along with keyboardist trumpeter Gerry Thomas (Fatback), bassist Doug Gibson, Harry Jensen (guitar), Lenny Fridle, Jr. (conga) and Bobby Manigault (drums), together united as The Jimmy Castor Bunch.
Released as a single back in 1970 on indie label Kinetic, the Latin percussive ‘It’s Just Begun’, which would give its name to their album of the likes released 2 years later on RCA, stands as a pivotal cut in the history of contemporary music, heavily sampled in films and in the Hip-Hop scene. Among their signature cuts along with ‘Troglodyte (Cave Man)’ taken from the same album…
Jimmy Castor remained active until 1979 as a solo artist, and 1983 with his band.
He died in Henderson, NV from heart failure, on Jan. 16, 2012, aged 71…
