The Jimmy Castor Bunch – It’s Just Begun

Most Wanted! The Jimmy Castor Bunch – It’s Just Begun (Kinetic)

Question… What do Pharrell, Jamiroquai, Grandmaster Flash and other M/A/R/R/S/ have in common? Answer… No less than the fact of belonging to a list of 100 + artists who sampled The Jimmy Castor Bunch‘s ‘It’s Just Begun’…

Although he started back in 1966 as a solo artist, Jimmy Castor got his peak in the early 70’s. This when joinin’ forces with keyboardist trumpeter Gerry Thomas (Fatback), bassist Doug Gibson, Harry Jensen (guitar), Lenny Fridle, Jr. (conga) and Bobby Manigault (drums), together as The Jimmy Castor Bunch.

Comin’ up as a single back in 1970 on indie label Kinetic, the Latin percussive ‘It’s Just Begun’. A gem which would give its name to their album of the likes released two years later on RCA, stands as a pivotal cut in the history of contemporary music. Thus heavily sampled in films and in the Hip-Hop scene with an impressive series of tracks including fragments of it!

Therefore, no wonder why ‘It’s Just Begun’ stands among The Jimmy Castor Bunch‘s signature cuts. This along with ‘Troglodyte (Cave Man)’ comin’ from the same album…

Jimmy Castor remained active until 1979 as a solo artist, and 1983 with his band.
