The Main Ingredient – Black Seeds Keep On Growing (RCA)

Formed in 1964 as a trio called The Poets by lead singer Donald McPherson, Luther Simmons, Jr., and Panama-born Tony Silvester before changing their name to The Insiders and once more four years after, the then called The Main Ingredients first made themselves a name with whispery love ballads…
They would make quite a sensation back in 1971 with the first cut taken from their ‘Black Seeds’ album teaming up with producer Bert DeCoteaux (Crown Heights Affair). A song composed by lead singer Don McPherson, standing as a Black Power anthem on a way faster tempo. Alas McPherson would never see it in the charts, dying of leukemia a few weeks before the release of the album. He would from then on be replaced by Cuba Gooding, Sr.
