Lost but not least! The Style Council – Can You Still Love Me? (Club Vocal) (Polydor)
“Can You Still Love Me?”, wonder The Style Council on this underrated jewel. Just give it a listen, then think about a proper answer to this. As for me, I would tend to think chances are great those of you not knowing it are gonna dig this…
Remembered and rated as a Synth Pop / Pop Rock / Blue-Eyed Soul band, Paul Weller, Mick Talbot, Steve White and Dee C. Lee embraced House Music by the end of the 80’s. This when doin’ a cover version of Joe Smooth‘s classic ‘Promised Land’ with remixing work courtesy of Juan Atkins. Itself flipped with the devastating Can You Still Love Me?’. The whole taken from the follow up to their 1988 ‘Confession Of A Pop Group’ album.
What happened is that their label simply refused to put it out back then. This resulting in the disbanding of this talented group soon after.
Polydor would though write a cruel epilog while releasing the album 10 years later. Ironically, it was titled… ‘Modernism: A New Decade’!
