The third in the series of video interviews we managed to co-produce alongside djontv.com at Paris’s Djoon Club back in the day. Welcoming Masters At Work’s co-producer and Roots NYC DJ resident Louie Vega!
2007… A French TV cameraman by the likes of Ludovic Marcellin hit me on my cell to let me know about the project he had to put together video interviews featuring DJ’s/producers booked at Paris’s club Le Djoon, inviting me to be in the driver’s seat for this. An exercise that would stand much as a challenge for me. Rather accustomed to do so for magazines and eventually radio stations.
On top of that, and because of the presence of only a cameraman for obvious production costs, I would have to come up for another round after the interview. Then repeat my questions in front of an empty chair in order to do necessary extra takes before putting the whole together!
Countless are the times Louie Vega and I would meet along the years. From our very first phone conv before the release of the Nuyorican Soul album. To the memorable MAW parties in Miami (one of the not to be missed events at the Winter Music Conference!). Not to mention our interviews at MAW Records HQ in New York or in Paris whenever Louie would come.
We would of course talk about his countless projects. Be they upfront or the opportunity to revisit his Latin influences. But also about his weekly Roots NYC residency alongside Kevin Hedge. And the effects that the digitalization of the technology would have on the art/way of DJing among other things!
