Mostly remembered for their consistent contribution as Zapp, Larry, Roger and Lester Troutman were the nucleus of the band whch also featured Bobby Glover, Greogory Jackson and the fourth of the five Troutman brothers: Terry. Once of their trademarks would be the heavy use of the vocoder as a talk box by the likes of Roger. They started working closely with George Clinton and Bootsy Collins who co-produced their first album before takin’ their distance after a dispute concerning Roger’s solo debut a year after.
Zapp‘s music sounds like a derivation of P-Funk which is hardly surprising, itself being much of an influence of the G-Funk a few years later with peeps such as Snoop Dogg and Warren G.
‘More Bounce To The Ounce’ stands as an example of early 80’s Electro-driven Funk…
It is believed that Larry killed Roger before committing suicide, Larry being angry because the lack of consultation Roger had given as to the reasons why he fired him from being his manager.
